NEW YORK TRANSPORT

New York Transportation -Most people tend to take advantage of the subways system in New York, as it is fast and simple. And as a tourist to the city you have to ride the subway!! Sometimes this can be the best way to get around especially if you’re not familiar with the city yet. The subway system in New York is the largest in the entire world and many people that live in the city and visit it use the subway as their main means of transportation.

Travel Guide

You Can also use the many buses that whiz around Manhattan and the other suburbs of New York but their routes are more complex until you are familiar with them. You can also get many ferries if you want to cross the rivers or take a river ferry or taxi to avoid the traffic in Manhattan.

Walking around New York is recommended as this is the best way to get a feel for the metropolis, but you Can’t do that all the time so utilize the buses or the subway.

You Can get a one day Fun Pass a MetroCard that lasts until 3am the following day and gives you unlimited journeys on the subway and buses. A one day card costs about $7 and is great value as each trip costs about $2. A MetroCArd means you can take as many trips as you want. You can also get a 7 day MetroCard for around $25. You can buy these cards at special booths/machines in stations, from MetroCard busses, MetroCard Vending Machines and in some stores. Be aware you can only buy two MetroCards with a credit card, so make sure to have cash with you if you plan to buy more than two.

The subway is simple to use. Get a map and study it before making your first few trips, you’ll find you’ll move around like a New Yorker after that.

Also available are taxis and limo services.

If you want to hire a car, you’ll find this easy over the internet and you can collect it at the airport or downtown Manhattan. A car isn’t of great value in New York unless you are experienced in the one way streets, but it’s great if you want to take a trip out of town.
